Bull's-eye on Busch
by: Jerry Bonkowski, Yahoo Sports
RICHMOND, Va. – Add "most hated man in NASCAR" to the growing list of nicknames for Kyle Busch.
He can try to run, but Busch cannot hide from what went down in the closing laps of Saturday night's Crown Royal Presents the Dan Lowry 400 at Richmond International Raceway.
Just when it looked like Dale Earnhardt Jr. was finally going to snap a 71-race winless streak – the longest of his Cup career – Busch's right-front fender got into Earnhardt's side, spinning him into the wall.
At the time, Earnhardt was leading the race, and with only four laps to go things were looking oh so promising for him and his millions of minions.
But instead of ending up in victory lane, Earnhardt wound up in the wall. And his following wasn't happy.
What should have been a short delay in the race turned into a sizable intermission as the Junior Nation went wild, lobbing anything they could find – beer cans, cups, trash – onto the track. (more)
Bowyer wins Crown Royal 400
RICHMOND, VIRGINIA (TICKER) —Denny Hamlin was dominant and Dale Earnhardt Jr. was poised to break a two-year winless drought, but Clint Bowyer wound up stealing the show.
Bowyer took advantage of a late-race accident involving Earnhardt and Kyle Busch to win Saturday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Crown Royal 400 at Richmond International Raceway.
It was Bowyer’s second career win, following his victory in New Hampshire in last season’s first race of the “Chase for the Championship.” He earned $226,550 for bring his Chevrolet home first with an average speed of 95.786 miles per hour.
“It’s awesome,” said Bowyer, who started 31st. “I messed up in qualifying and let these guys down, but we dug deep, kept fighting, and look where we are.”
Busch was second in a Toyota, followed by Mark Martin’s Chevrolet, Tony Stewart’s Toyota and the Chevrolet of Martin Truex Jr.
Hamlin dominated the majority of the race but gave up the lead to Earnhardt with 17 laps remaining after suffering a front right flat tire. The tire eventually blew and he wound up 24th despite leading a record 381 of 410 laps. (more)
Hamlin wins Lipton Tea 250
RICHMOND, VIRGINIA (TICKER) —Denny Hamlin made his dream come true.
Hamlin won his sixth career NASCAR Nationwide Series race, taking the checkered flag at the Lipton Tea 250 with an average speed of 96.236 miles per hour on Friday.
In a Toyota Camry, Hamlin led for just 12 of the 253 total laps at the Richmond International Raceway to collect the fifth straight victory for Joe Gibbs Racing, including a third straight in the No. 20 car.
For the 27-year-old Hamlin, it was his first win here - just 15 minutes from where he grew up in Chesterfield, Virginia.
“It’s unbelievable that we were able to get this done in my home state,” Hamlin said in Victory Lane. “This is my biggest win.”
The 2006 NASCAR Sprint Cup Rookie of the Year held off challenges from Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch and Steve Wallace to earn his first victory on the circuit in 2008.
Before this race, Hamlin had stated that he’d rather win here than any other track - including Daytona and Indianapolis. (more)

Back-to-Back Wins
By Dave Lewandowski
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The 2007 season went south for Dan Wheldon after he recorded two victories and a runner-up spot in three of the initial four IndyCar Series races -- including a commanding victory at Kansas Speedway.
A similar strong start - including a 2.1778-second victory over Tony Kanaan in the Road Runner Turbo Indy 300 - ended a year-long victory drought and came at the right time. Wheldon again will be an early favorite for the Indianapolis 500.
"It has been a little frustrating at times and to get the (No.) 10 car back to Victory Lane just shows that we could be back and we certainly mean a lot of business," said Wheldon, who became the first repeat winner in eight races on the 1.52-mile oval. "It was a real strong day."
That was the case for Target Chip Ganassi Racing teammate Scott Dixon, who led a field-high 145 laps, as well. But it was Dixon's misfortune that, in part, allowed Wheldon to record his 14th IndyCar Series victory.
Wheldon, who has finished third, fourth and first on the ovals this season, became the first repeat winner in eight races at the 1.52-mile Kansas Speedway. The victory, in part, came at the expense of Target Chip Ganassi Racing teammate Scott Dixon's timing. (more)
